NRWL / Where to Give
The most effective places to give
NRWL does not accept donations. We send you directly to the animal-welfare and conservation organizations rated most effective by Animal Charity Evaluators and Charity Navigator. Your money goes from you to them, with no platform fee.

The Humane League
Corporate cage-free and broiler-welfare campaigns
ACE Top CharityCharity Navigator 4-starTHL runs negotiated and pressure campaigns that move major food companies to drop battery cages and adopt higher-welfare broiler standards. Independent estimates put the impact at hundreds of millions of farmed animals affected per year — making it one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce animal suffering at scale.
Wild Animal Initiative
Welfare science for wild animals
ACE Top CharityWild animals vastly outnumber farmed and companion animals, but almost no organization funds research into their welfare. WAI funds the foundational science needed before any large-scale wild-animal welfare program is even possible. It is severely under-funded relative to the scope of the problem — a top recommendation for donors who want to fund a neglected, tractable, high-leverage cause.
Rainforest Trust
Permanent tropical-habitat protection
Charity Navigator 4-starRainforest Trust partners with local NGOs to purchase or establish protected reserves in biodiversity hotspots. Cost per acre of permanent protection is unusually low because they work where land is cheap and threats are highest. For donors focused on habitat — and on species whose survival depends on uncut forest — this is one of the few groups with a defensible cost-per-acre-protected metric.
How we choose
An organization may appear on this page only if it meets all of:
- Holds a current top recommendation from Animal Charity Evaluators or at least a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.
- Has audited financials publicly available.
- Pursues outcomes that are measurable (animals affected, acres protected, research published).
- Has not been credibly accused of misconduct, fundraising abuse, or welfare violations in its own programs.
Partner additions and removals happen at most quarterly and are announced on the Transparency page with the reason.
